How to get moving with fibromyalgia – Mental Health Awareness Week 2024

•

The theme for Mental Health Awareness Week this year is Moving for our mental health. As extreme tiredness (fatigue) and pain are two of the main symptoms of fibromyalgia, many of us struggle with physical activity.

But it’s still important for us to get some movement in, as a lack of any physical activity can cause our muscles and joints to stiffen, and worsen some of our other symptoms as well.

Even doing 5 min bursts of movement can:

  • Lift your mood
  • Improve your memory and brain function
  • Reduce stress
  • And help with anxiety and depression
  • Improve your muscle and bone health

Here are some of my tips for getting moving with fibromyalgia. Remember that there isn’t a one size fits all answer. It’s important to find what works for you. Please check with your doctor if you have any concerns.
